Yael Orni is a performer, dancer, choreographer, video artist and teacher.

Yael created many works till today which were performed in important venues in Israel and abroad such as The Place in London, Suzanne Dellal Dance Centre in Tel-Aviv and in dance centers and festivals. Her works are multi-disciplinary and include video art, sculpture, music, text and dance.

Today, Yael continues to perform and choreograph her own works as well as being the artistic director of the frame Hamerhav Haishi, which is a frame of performances for independent choreographers at Tel-Aviv Museum.

Her latest works are Fragments and Landing.

Yael began studying dance at the age of 6. She studied first ballet technique according to the Royal Academy of Dance taught by Shelley Sheer (then Bat-Sheva Dance Company Soloist) and continued to study with Jean Geddis Zetterberg (then Bat-Sheva Ballet Mistress). Parallel, she studied playing piano.

She continued her training in Bat-Dor Dance School of dance in Tel-Aviv which included ballet and contemporary dance training. Simultaneously, she studied Visual Arts in Thelma Yellin High School of Arts.

At the age of 16 she created her first dance piece. She then received scholarship for a Choreography summer course in Jacob’s Pillow where she had the opportunity to be guided by Trisha Brown, Ralph Lemon, Lis Lerman and many other Post- Modern Choreographers.

After that she continued her choreography studies with Dr. Ronit Land and later with Sofia Naharin as well as taking part in many workshops given by Ohad Naharin, Debra Hay, Julian Hamilton and many other renowned dance artists.

She was also invited by Dominic Mercy to be a guest in Pina Bausch's Company - The Wuppertal Tanz Theatre: she participated the daily training classes there. She was also a guest at William Forsythe’s Companies (Ballet Frankfurt and The Forsythe Company) several times.

Today, she holds BEd in dance education from SMKB College (Tel-Aviv, Israel) and MA in choreography from Laban Dance Centre in City University in London, England.

Yael received the Sharet Foundation Choreography Award and won First Place at Sonnenfeldt Competition at the Ben-Gurion University for her solo Animi. In 2018, she finally received the support of the Israeli Cultural Ministry.

Yael started her professional performing career when she danced in Ido Tadmor’s first piece as a soloist. Right after that she was chosen to be a dancer in Maguy Marin Dance Company in France. She continued her career as a soloist in Rina Shenfeld Dance Theatre as well as performed in her own works.

As a teacher, Yael taught in several universities and colleges including The Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne and Bucharest Cinema and Theatre University. She also taught in many dance departments in junior high and high schools in Israel and abroad. She taught choreography at the Kibbutzim Dance Company Workshop and created a piece for them.

As a writer, Yael was invited by the Israeli dance magazine Dance Now to write a review article for the book Terpsichore in Sneakers by Sally Banes which was newly translated to Hebrew.

Yael had created the TV program Hamerhav Ha'ishi in TV Life Channel. Later, She called the new dance frame she currently artistically directs at Tel-Aviv Museum, the same name of her TV program.
